I Said "F*ck It" to My Career

And It Was the Best Decision of My Life

Have you ever thought about quitting everything and starting over?

Like many millennials, I’ve questioned whether I was in the right career, doing what I loved, or if it was time for a change. I’m not the first—and certainly not the last—to quit a stable job in pursuit of other dreams or simply say "f*ck it" to my career and take a break.

But what does that really mean? For me, it was realizing that my job didn’t define my existence. Today, I want to share my journey and how this decision transformed my life.

The Pressure to "Be Someone in Life"

Since childhood, I was conditioned to believe that my career would determine my worth. The classic question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" always came with traditional options—doctor, lawyer, engineer—professions that promised financial security.

So, I followed the script: I studied, specialized, and worked hard until my early 30s, trying to fit into that mold. Until I realized: this wasn’t me anymore. Staying in that cycle was slowly killing me—physically and emotionally.

The Fear of Taking the First Step

I remember the sleepless nights, the anxiety that woke me up at 3 AM with nausea, the fear of leaving stability behind.

Saying "f*ck it" to my career wasn’t impulsive. It was a painful process, marked by burnout, existential crises, and a lot of self-discovery.

People who see my travels and freedom now might think, "She lost it and quit everything!" But the truth is, this was the sanest decision of my life.

What Happens When You Hit Pause?

When I told my therapist I was leaving my job, she made sure I was okay. Because, yes, pausing isn’t failure—it’s an act of courage.

And the most surprising part? Saying "f*ck it" to my career didn’t mean abandoning my skills. It meant choosing how to use them in a way that made sense for me.

For me, it was about refusing to stay in a system that, even if it gave me financial security, was making me sick. It was saying no to others’ expectations and yes to what truly mattered.

How Do You Know It’s Time to Say "F*ck It"?

Not everyone can (or wants to) walk away from a stable job, but there are clear signs that something needs to change:

Your job only brings stress—no fulfillment.
You constantly daydream about a different life.
Your body sends signals: extreme fatigue, mystery illnesses, mental exhaustion.

If this sounds familiar, maybe it’s time to rethink things. Pausing isn’t quitting—sometimes, it’s the step back you need to leap forward.

What About Fear? Oh, It’s There (And That’s Okay)

Yes, I was scared. Terrified, actually.

  • Fear of running out of money.

  • Fear of judgment from others.

  • Fear of making the biggest mistake of my life.

But the fear of staying in that life was worse. And looking back now, I know it was worth it.

Can You Do It Too?

Everyone’s situation is different—financially, socially, personally. But here’s what I learned:

🔹 Don’t ignore burnout.
🔹 Listen to your body and mind.
🔹 Give yourself permission to start over.

Sometimes, saying "f*ck it" is the first step to reconnecting with who you really are.

What about you? Have you ever thought about hitting reset on your career?

📌 Extra Tip:

If you’re in a career crisis, seek self-awareness. Therapy, coaching, or even a strategic break can help clarify your next steps.
